In Howard County, early voting for the Nov. 5 presidential election is under way with 27,954 (11.81%) of the county’s 238,872 eligible registered voters casting a ballot through Sunday, according to the Maryland State Board of Elections.
Early voting began Oct. 24 and runs through Oct. 31.
“Turnout has been good so far,” Howard County Election Director Guy Mickley said. “We have not encountered any problems or concerns. The process is going very well.”
On the first day of early voting 9,581 (4.05%) registered voters in Howard cast ballots, followed by 8,681 (3.67%) on the second day, 5,223 (2.21%) the third day, and 4,469 (1.89%) on day four.
The following are the early voting locations open each day in the county, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.:
- Gary J. Arthur Community Center, 2400 Route 97, Cooksville
- Meadowbrook Athletic Complex, 5001 Meadowbrook Lane, Ellicott City
- Bain 50+ Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way, Columbia
- St. John the Baptist Church, 9055 Tamar Drive, Columbia
- North Laurel Community Center, 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road, Laurel
Voters also have the option to submit a ballot in one of 10 drop boxes located throughout the county:
- Gary J. Arthur Community Center, 2400 Route 97, Cooksville
- West Friendship Volunteer Fire Department, 12535 Old Frederick Road, Sykesville
- George Howard Building, 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City
- Meadowbrook Athletic Complex, 5001 Meadowbrook Lane, Ellicott City
- Bain 50+ Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way, Columbia
- Howard County Police Department Scaggsville, 11226 Scaggsville Road, Laurel
- St. John the Baptist Church, 9055 Tamar Drive, Columbia
- Howard County Board of Elections, 9770 Patuxent Woods Drive, Columbia
- North Laurel Community Center, 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road, Laurel
- Elkridge 50+ Center, 6540 Washington Blvd., Elkridge
Of the 238,872 registered voters in Howard, 123,368 are Democrats, 48,580 are Republicans, 344 are registered with the No Labels Party, 976 are registered Libertarians, 244 are with the Green Party, another 63,155 are unaffiliated and 2,205 are registered as “others.”
According to the state board, about 12.5% (15,311) of registered Democrats had voted early through Sunday; and 13.8% of Republicans (6,707) had cast ballots.
The busiest early voting site has been the Meadowbrook Athletic Complex in Ellicott City, where 9,214 voters had cast early ballots as of the end of Sunday.
