Carroll County is seeing a robust turnout for early voting in this year’s presidential election. According to the Maryland State Board of Elections, 16,032 (12.4%) of the county’s 129,250 registered voters cast ballots during the first four days of early voting.

That percentage beats the state average of 10.5% of eligible voters casting a ballot as of the end of the day Sunday.

Early voting began Oct. 24 and continues through Thursday.

“Early voting is going smoothly,” Erin Perrone, director of the Carroll County Board of Elections, said. “We are on day five and have three more days to go. Turnout is definitely higher than this year’s primary held in May.”

In May’s primary election just 4,984 voters in Carroll County cast a ballot during early voting.

Perrone said the Westminster Senior Center has been the busiest of the three early voting sites, with South Carroll Senior Center second, and Coppermine Pantherplex the least busy.

“However, all three are busier than they were in May’s primary election,” she said.
