Carroll County Board of Elections officials have spent the past week counting mail-in ballots from the recent primary election and still has 506 more to count Wednesday before final results are due to the state Friday.
Former President Donald Trump is the clear winner of the Republican primary in Carroll, with 14,850 votes (78.87%). Of that, 2,580 are mail-in ballots, according to the Maryland State Board of Elections.
The total number of votes includes early voting, primary election numbers, and mail-in ballots counted as of May 17. Ballot counting continues at the gymnasium of the Robert Moton Building, 300 S. Center St., in Westminster.
Former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley, who dropped out of the Republican race for president, has earned 3,979 total votes in Carroll County, with 1,439 coming from mail-in ballots.
President Joe Biden has a total of 8,798 votes in Carroll thus far, 83.05% of the votes cast in the Democratic presidential primary. Of that, 4,516 are mail-in ballots.
Former Gov. Larry Hogan has earned a total of 12,379 votes (64.93%) in Carroll’s Republican primary for the open U.S. Senate seat. Of those, 3,303 are mail-in votes.
Hogan’s Democratic rival this November, Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, has a total of 3,991 total votes (38.61%) in Carroll, including 1,721 mail-in votes.
Kim Klacik, a Republican candidate for the House of Representatives in District 2, remains in the lead with a total of 8,448 votes (55.57%). Of that, 1,498 are mail-in ballots.
In the Democratic primary, John “Johnny O” Olszewski has earned 3,223 mail-in votes, bringing his total count to 6,413 votes (72.98%) in Carroll.
In the District 3 race for the U.S. House of Representatives, Democrat Sarah Elfreth has 465 votes in Carroll, including 204 mail-in ballots. In the Republican primary, Robert J. Steinberger has earned 404, 50 of which are mail-in.
